Power Knocked Out For 3K+ Customers In Central Jersey

More than 3,000 customers were without power in Monmouth County after a substation caught fire, officials said.

A substation fire at the entrance to Sandy Hook caused the outage on Monday, Apr. 8, Atlantic Highlands police said in a Facebook post. Route 36 crossings in Atlantic Highlands were temporarily closed.

According to Jersey Central Power & Light's outage map, power was lost for 2,414 customers in Middletown, 1,044 customers in Atlantic Highlands, and nine customers in Highlands as of 5:30 p.m.

JCP&L was told about the fire and crews are responding to make repairs, police said.

Police also asked people to avoid the area of the fire.
